7 Reasons Why Skin Professionals Choose the Brands They Do
I cannot speak for all skin therapists, but I can tell you my experience with various brands and why I chose to move on from them. Right from my first year in college, prominent skincare brands were getting involved in my skincare education experience. They would book out a day to teach us about who they are, where they came from, and why they are the number one brand to work with when we have completed our qualification. We learnt about their approach to skincare, their key ingredients, and their signature treatments. We then take an exam and get student certified. The brand trainers go on their way, and we are left to make the decision when we are ready to open our own skin care centres or apply to work at an existing one.
With skincare technology rapidly advancing, the industry growing at break-neck speed, and new innovations around every corner, it can be a difficult task to choose a brand. You’ll notice that a lot of skincare centres carry more than one brand on their shelves. This is often to cater for the variety of skin conditions that they treat as well as to cater to different budgets.
I have used six different skin brands in the years that I have owned Calmer Health and Skincare. So, I am no stranger to making decisions and changing brands when I feel the need. I started off with a Spanish skin brand offering luxurious treatments and home care products. They were well formulated, catered to a range of different conditions, and were relatively affordable. I trusted a valued friend’s referral in taking on this range first and am still glad that I did. The brand drew a particular clientele, my clients and I enjoyed the facial experience as well as the results that the formulations offered. This brand, unfortunately, began having trouble with shipping from Spain and the product became more difficult to retail as they were frequently out of stock. This prompted my first brand switch.
I researched, tried a variety of products, and settled on an up-and-coming South African brand. The products were attractively packaged, well priced, well formulated, and felt good on the skin. The treatments offered a unique, luxury spa feel with their special touches and signature massages. I enjoyed this brand for a time until my representative resigned. Although I had a good representation, I never felt quite the same way about the brand after that. When the second rep left, so did I. I had grown my clientele and had more demand for advanced treatments that were going to deliver results for more complex skin problems. So, I took on another South African skincare brand.
This brand was more focused on intense treatment and had a reputation for a high level of actives that needed to be handled carefully and by a well-trained therapist. Since starting my career, I have always enjoyed training and improving, so this was not a challenge that I was going to pass up. My clients embraced the change as I had led them on a path to good skin for several years and I had gained their trust. Many stuck to the more luxurious treatments that I customized for them, and some branched out into skin peels and more intense home care routines. During my time with this brand, I also invested in four machines manufactured internationally to bring further advancements to my treatments. This included the use of an American and a German skin brand. All this experience with different training, machines, brands, and business approaches has made me even more particular about what I am looking for in a skin brand that I mean to offer to my VIPs.
You’ll notice by reading this article that I enjoyed all the brands that I worked with for a time:
- I valued their formulations, and what they offered the industry.
- Their approach to skincare.
- Their affordability to my clients.
- I look for high-quality ingredients.
- Advanced formulations and up-to-date technology.
- Outstanding and current training.
- And service. With so many good brands in the industry, service is not negotiable.
My latest adjustment has brought me closer to the variety of treatments and products that I am always seeking. This South African brand has advanced formulations with high levels of actives, customizable solutions to cater to all my client’s needs, are affordable in the professional skin care arena, and are constantly keeping up to date with the latest innovations in skincare.
